Sean Baker Studio · Serving Reading & Berkshire
Conversion-focused websites for service businesses across Reading and Berkshire. Built from scratch, built to last.
Start a conversationMore businesses are setting up here, more offices are choosing it over London, and more people are searching for local services on their phones before they ever pick up the phone. The competition for that attention, from a plumber in Woodley, a personal trainer in Caversham, a café near the Oracle, is higher than it has ever been.
Not because of the quality of their work, but because their website does not reflect it.
I am Sean Baker, a freelance web designer based in Oxfordshire. I grew up in Reading, season ticket at the Madejski, project management apprenticeship in the town centre, years working in communications for a pharma agency off the A4. I know what local businesses here are competing against, and I know what it takes to stand out online without overcomplicating it.
I build clean, focused websites for service businesses across Reading and Berkshire. Built to convert, not to win design awards.
What I do
Everything a service business needs. Nothing it does not.
01
A focused, fast-loading website built from scratch. No page builders, no bloat, no templates. Designed around how your customers actually make decisions and built to hold up on any device, whether they are searching from the Oracle car park or sitting at home in Caversham.
02
Every site I build comes with the technical groundwork in place. Proper page structure, meta data, schema markup, Google Search Console setup. The kind of foundations that give you a genuine shot at local search visibility without paying for ads.
03
Once your site is live, I do not disappear. If something needs updating, tweaking, or improving, I am available. One point of contact, start to finish and beyond.
Who I work with
"Our old site was outdated, full of errors, and the enquiry form hadn't been working for months. We had no idea how many customers we'd lost. Sean rebuilt everything properly, and has been growing our visibility on Google ever since. The enquiries have noticeably increased. It's already paying for itself."
Director, Spotless Oven CleaningReading has a strong and growing base of independent service businesses, and those are exactly the clients I am built for. If you are running a service business in Reading and your website is not working as hard as you are, we are likely a good fit.
I have worked with Reading-based service businesses including Spotless Oven Cleaning, helping them move from an outdated web presence to something that actually reflects the quality of their work.
I work best with service businesses that want a professional web presence without the agency overhead, the jargon, or the disappearing act after launch.
Why it matters
The standard for service business websites in Reading is, honestly, low. Most are outdated, not optimised for mobile, or built without any thought for conversion. That is a problem in a market that is becoming more competitive every year.
When you work with a local freelance web designer, you are working with someone who understands the area. I know the difference between a business serving affluent Caversham and one operating across Tilehurst and Woodley. I know Reading is not just a commuter town anymore. It is a place businesses are actively choosing, and the expectations that come with that are rising.
You also get one point of contact from first conversation to final build. No account managers, no handoffs, no explaining your business three times to different people.
Questions
Yes. I work with clients across Reading and the wider Berkshire area, including Caversham, Woodley, Earley, Tilehurst, the town centre, and beyond. Most work is handled remotely, so location is never a barrier.
Primarily local service businesses. Tradespeople, personal trainers, cleaning companies, café owners, window cleaners, and other independent specialists. If you are a small service business in Reading looking to grow your local presence online, you are likely a good fit. I have worked with Reading-based businesses like Spotless Oven Cleaning, so I understand the market you are operating in.
Most small business websites I build fall between £800 and £2,000 depending on scope. You will get a clear, fixed price before any work begins. No surprises, no hourly rates that spiral.
Typically two to four weeks from kick-off to launch. Projects stay focused and scoped tightly so timelines stay realistic.
Not at all. You will be involved in the decisions that matter: content, direction, how you want to come across. I handle everything else.
SEO is built into every site I deliver. For local searches like "personal trainer Reading" or "plumber Caversham", strong technical foundations combined with well-structured content give you a genuine shot at ranking without relying on paid ads. Google Search Console setup, schema markup, and local optimisation are included on every project.
